 Required Courses ElectivesVolunteer Service

 

All students are required to take the four year sequence of religion courses. Besides the regular classroom content courses, emphasis is place on the development of Religious values and commitment by appropriate experiences ranging from school/class Masses, days of Recollection and Retreats to Social Justice involvement.

 

Required Courses

 

Understanding Catholic Christianity (9th Year)

To give students from diverse religious upbringings and backgrounds an understanding of the basics of the Catholic faith, with a common vocabulary and unified vision of the whole of the Catholic heritage. The students will explore and appreciate the meaning of Catholic faith at a personal and affective level.

 

Introduction to the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures (10th Year)

A descriptive review of the Hebrew Scriptures the emphasizes the historical and faith journey of the Jewish people. The course will then move into a comprehensive study of the Christian Scriptures embracing the religious heritage of Jesus, His word, and the world of today.

An Overview of Church History and Christian Morality (11th Year)

A review of Catholic theology through a study of Church history, doctrine, authority and infallibility. It brings together a religious tradition as old as Jesus and the Apostles with a 21st century world of new hopes and situations. The second semester will concentrate in applying these concepts with an understanding of Christian morality and the nature of law.

 

Christian Vocations (12th Year)

Invites students to learn about the main vocational choices in life, what those vocations are, and what they mean, and how an individual can, best live them within the context of Christian belief and Catholic teaching.

Electives

 

Thanatology (12th Year)

This course considers the universal dimensions of death as well as the viewpoint of he Catholic Church. Within the context of the Resurrection, this course will present the stages of death and dying; grief and reactions; customs surrounding death; and the moral issues related to death.

Volunteer Service

 

Students are required to complete 40 hours of service through their parish, school, or community institution. This service is in addition to regular class work and curriculum.
