St. Peter's Tradition

St. Peter's is operated by the Christian Brothers of St. John Baptist de La Salle, a worldwide religious order of fourteen-thousand men with a history of three-hundred years of teaching experience. St. Peter's is part of a system of seventeen schools operated by the Christian Brothers in the New York/New Jersey area.

St. Peter's is a non-profit New York State Regents accredited high school accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. We maintain a policy of non-discrimination of acceptance on the basis of ethnic or religious background.

Philosophy

St. Peter's Boys High School is a parish, Catholic school existing to provide young men the opportunity to understand their value as God's children. As a Catholic institution we believe in the principles of life and that "Thou shalt love the Lord, thy God, with all thy heart, and with thy whole soul, with all the strength and with all thy mind, as thy neighbor, as thyself" (Lk. 10:27).

Following the tradition of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, we believe:

  • that an atmosphere be present where the student is reminded of values to which he should be dedicated;

  • that our schools, while placing an emphasis on religious education of the person be distinguished by a high degree of excellence in the total development of the student;

  • that our teachers be marked by a high level of academic excellence and personal integrity; and

  • that discipline, order, respect for authority and good citizenship are the objectives essential in the development of a mature Christian man.

Statement of Nondiscrimination

Roman Catholic Schools in the Archdioceses of New York base not only their educational purposes, but all activities on the Christian teaching of the essential quality of all people as rooted in the providence of God, Christ's love, and the supernatural destiny of every person.

Thus, with discrimination so repugnant to their nature and mission, Catholic schools in this Archdiocese have not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national and ethnic origin in administration of educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs.

This policy is subscribed to by all Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of New York, whether owned or operated by the Archdiocese, the parishes of the Archdiocese, or religious communities within the Archdiocese.
